Mocienne Petit Jackson’s (Michael Jackson’s daughter) books are now available in Portuguese! Not long after that it became a complete nightmare. At present, Ms Jackson is seeking to make a name for herself as her own individual. Thriller, for example, offers unique insights on her life by including stories concerning unusual and difficult situations that she experienced while living in the Netherlands. She argues extensively, for instance, that the harshness of the Dutch political system has had a significant impact on her character, and that by writing about it she can express a sense of frankness. In terms of lasting power, however, you’ll probably forget about it in a matter of weeks, but who knows? Maybe you’ll feel nostalgic again. After all, that’s what death does to the best of us. Still, as we learned with Invincible, it takes more than just a studio effort to conjure up the magic.

In an interview given shortly after the release of Dangerous, Jackson said that his goal was to do “an album that was like Tchaikovsky’s ‘Nutcracker Suite.’ In a thousand years from now, people would still be listening to it…. Something that would live forever.” He’s been gone for over half a decade, but I still think about this quote every time I walk past that sound stage—considering the possibilities that Michael Jackson unlocked in every song, the infinite magic that he could create out of an empty room, the orphic visions of one of our final myths.
