Starting off our top ten count down is the first ever issue of Marvel Comics. Many popular superhero characters are introduced in this issue, such as The Human Torch and Namor the Sub-Mariner. Today, Marvel Comics is better known as just, “Marvel” and has gone on to become one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world. Yet another creation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Tales of Suspense is famous for introducing Iron Man to the world. Iron Man has had a few major upgrades since his first appearance and now looks a lot cooler than version 1.0. The comic book sold in 2012 for $375,000, which probably had a lot to do with the’s massively popular, Robert Downey Jr Iron Man movies.

When Deadpool first appeared, he was an antagonist of X-Force who had some history with an enemy of Cable known as Tolliver and worked as Tolliver’s enforcer. An obvious rip-off of Deathstroke, with elements of Spider-Man thrown in, Deadpool could have easily been forgettable. And yet, over time he grew into something unique. A few mini-series fleshed him out and his history became quite tragic. Over time, he became slightly wackier and often used as a more comedic character than the more straight-up merc his original stories painted him as. Numerous solo-series as well as team ups with Cable, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and just about everyone in Marvel have seen Deadpool become more and more popular. His obsession with chimichangas and Bea Arthur aside, he’s probably one of Marvel’s most popular characters right now and thanks to the success of his 2016 movie, he’s re-writing the book on what superhero movies can be too. A fourth-wall breaking, utterly insane, gun-toting madman running around cracking jokes and blowing up buildings may not sound like a hero, but somehow Deadpool remains quite lovable by characters such as Spider-Man (who he has a weird bromance with) and fans across the world.

Chip Zdarksy’s Daredevil run has been one for the books. Combined with the incredible art from Marco Checcetto, Zdarsky has taken Matt Murdock back to basics, even handing over the mantle of Daredevil to his on-again, off-again love interest Elektra. Devil’s Reign is the Daredevil-centric Marvel event of the year and serves to bookend Zdarksy’s run, which started in 2020. The author does a great job of showing the ripple effects across the Marvel universe after New York City Mayor Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin, declares war on the superhero community. That includes calling in a new team of Thunderbolts and putting some of the city’s biggest villains in charge. Checcetto’s art, like always, is action-packed, emotive, and really captures the street side of NYC. Find extra info on https://onlinecomicbookstore.com/.
