Top laptops lists 2020
4 min readBest touch screen laptops lists 2020? It’s worth repeating that price: $1,799 for a Prestige 15 (model A10SC-010) with the aforementioned Core i7-10710U chip and 3,840-by-2,160-pixel display; 32GB of memory; a 1TB NVMe solid-state drive; Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics; and Windows 10 Pro. The MSI can’t match the eight-core Core i9 processor available in the Dell or Apple or the ultra-high-contrast OLED screens offered by the XPS 15, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme, or the Razer Blade 15 Studio Edition, but it costs a lot less. Our XPS 15 test unit was $2,649; our Acer ConceptD 7 was $2,999; and our Razer Studio Edition was $3,999. The “Raider” moniker is gone from the laptop’s rear edge, giving way to some more sensible and useful I/O ports instead. They include the power port, an HDMI output, an Ethernet jack, a USB Type-C connector, and a mini DisplayPort 1.4 output. The DisplayPort jack is especially useful for connecting VR headsets. The front edge of the GE66 is anything but subtle, meanwhile. It’s occupied by a giant light bar that runs the entire width of the laptop’s chassis, offering 16.7 million colors that are customizable using the same SteelSeries Engine app that adjusts the per-key lighting on the GE66’s keyboard. Ostentatious, to be sure, but when it’s turned off, the light bar is well integrated enough that you’ll hardly notice it.
The MacBook Air 2018 is a long-awaited refresh of Apple’s line of lightweight laptops, which, since 2015, had only seen tiny, iterative updates instead of big leaps forward. The 2018 line-up brings a 2560×1600 Retina Display screen, which boasts fantastic levels of colour accuracy and decent levels of brightness and contrast. There’s Touch ID, which lets you unlock the MacBook Air with a tap of your finger, and the T2 security chip, which encrypts your files on the go. The stereo speakers also offer sound quality that’s among the best of any laptop we’ve seen recently. For everyday use, the battery gave us 9-10 hours of power, too. Downsides include the fact that you get just two USB-C ports. They support the Thunderbolt 3 standard, so you’ll be able to charge and transfer files quickly and hook your Air up to all manner of monitors, drives, eGPUs and other accessories, but, when you’re working on the go, this will be very limiting.
The only real downside is the price, which is why it earns a place as our premium pick rather than our overall pick for the best phone on the market at the moment. As we said in our review, “if you are a tech enthusiast and have pockets deep enough to wield it, then the S20 Ultra is impossible not to recommend”. Of course it’s a stunning phone to look at, something you would expect from Samsung at this stage. Inside you have some of the best internal components you’re going to find in a handset in 2020. And then around the back is one of the best and most versatile cameras on the market. Don’t forget the hefty 5,000mAh battery here either, ensuring the phone will be able to run and run no matter what you put it through. It’s hard to find any fault in what the S20 Ultra offers, and it’s hard to find a phone in 2020 that’s able to beat it in any of the key departments that matter. Everyday processors: If your laptop is for normal home use, choosing from AMD A4, Ryzen 3, Intel Pentium, Celeron or Core i3 would be ideal for watching videos, surfing the web and basic word processing tasks. They’re not as powerful as their higher end counterparts, but offer great value for money. All modern processors feature built in (integrated) graphics, they share computers RAM and processing power to deliver what you see on screen. Integrated graphics are ideal for everyday use but will struggle when it comes toplaying games or any graphically intensivetasks.
When HP unveiled the HP Spectre Folio, it made some big claims about how the 2-in-1 laptop would reinvent the PC. While it doesn’t quite match the hype, what we do have is one of the most beautifully-designed laptops we’ve ever tried. Billed as “modern vintage meets technology”, the HP Spectre Folio is built directly into a piece of genuine leather. That’s not a fancy cover, it’s a part of the laptop. It’s not just looks that has put it on this list of the best laptops of 2019, the HP Spectre Folio is also a brilliant performer as well, with modern components powering the device. While the entire laptop category has gotten slimmer, there’s still a market for larger “classic” desktop-replacement laptops that blend premium design and function. Desktop replacements aren’t quite as easy to cart around as smaller ultraportables, but these 14- and 15-inch laptops offer everything you need in a day-to-day PC. They have bigger displays, as well as a broader selection of ports and features, and are one of the few categories that still offer optical drives. Screen resolutions run the gamut from 1,366 by 768 for budget systems to the more mainstream 1,920-by-1,080-pixel resolution, up to the 3,840-by-2,160-pixel resolution found on high-end multimedia laptops intended for graphics professionals.
